GOST 20295 carbon steel welded pipe​

GOST 20295 is a Russian standard that specifies steel welded pipes for use in major gas and oil pipelines, both longitudinally and spirally welded types. They are made of carbon steel or low alloy steel.

These pipes range in diameter from 159 to 820 mm and are designed for high pressure applications in oil, gas and industrial pipelines. Ideal for transporting hydrocarbons and supporting critical infrastructure, GOST 20295 pipes are widely used in the energy and construction industries.

Notes:
The theoretical mass is determined based on nominal dimensions (without considering width changes) with a steel density of 7,85 t/cm³,  
For type 2 pipes, the theoretical mass increases by 1,5% due to weld reinforcement; for type 3 pipes, by 1%,  
If necessary, pipes with a wall thickness less than 5 mm can be manufactured with a weld cross-section of at least 0,1 mm,)

GOST 20295 Steel Pipe Grades

GOST 20295 specifies the technical requirements for steel welded pipes for gas and oil pipelines, including longitudinal and spiral welded types. The standard specifies various strength grades based on the minimum yield strength. Below is an introduction to the different grades related to this standard.

  • K34: This grade has a minimum yield strength of 343 MPa (about 34 kgf/mm²). It is suitable for low-pressure pipelines or less demanding applications and can be used for general purposes in oil and gas transportation.
  • K38: With a minimum yield strength of 382 MPa (about 38 kgf/mm²), it is stronger and suitable for medium-pressure pipelines. It is ideal for medium industrial applications.
  • K42: K42 pipe has a minimum yield strength of 422 MPa (about 42 kgf/mm²) and is designed for high-pressure environments.
  • K50: This grade has a minimum yield strength of 507 MPa (about 50 kgf/mm²) and has strong mechanical properties. K50 pipes are used for high-pressure pipelines, including long-distance oil and gas transportation.
  • K52: With a minimum yield strength of 529 MPa (approx. 52 kgf/mm²), it is designed for demanding conditions. They are often used in critical infrastructure projects, such as main gas pipelines.
  • K55: With a minimum yield strength of 552 MPa (approx. 55 kgf/mm²), this grade has high tensile strength and toughness. K55 pipes are suitable for high-pressure oil and gas pipelines and are often used in challenging environments such as the Arctic or offshore areas.
  • K60: Among these grades, K60 pipes have the highest minimum yield strength of 588 MPa (approx. 60 kgf/mm²) and are designed for extremely high pressure and high stress applications. They are often used in the most demanding oil and gas pipeline systems.
