ASTM A53 Pipe is a carbon steel alloy pipe, which can be used as structural steel or for low-pressure pipelines.
ASTM A53 carbon steel pipe is a specification for seamless and welded black and hot-dipped galvanized steel pipe in sizes ranging from 1/8′′ to NPS 26. A53 is designed for high-pressure and mechanical applications, but it is also suitable for everyday use in steam, water, gas, and air lines.
For ASTM A53 there are ERW and seamless steel pipes Type F, E, S covers Grade A and B.
A53 pipe comes in three types (F, E, S) and two grades (A, B).
A53 Type F is manufactured with a furnace butt weld or may have a continuous weld (Grade A only)
A53 Type E has an electric resistance weld (Grades A and B)
A53 Type S is a seamless pipe and found in Grades A and B)
Steel for ASTM A53 pipe (both seamless and welded) shall be produced using one of the following processes: open-hearth electric furnace or basic oxygen.
Identification of the resultant transition material is required when raw steel material of different grades is individually strand cast. Any known procedure that can clearly distinguish the classes should be used to remove transition material by the manufacturer.
After welding, the welding seam for ERW welding methods in ASTM A53 Grade B pipe shall be heat treated to a minimum of 540°C 1000°F.
As a result, there are no untempered martensite remnants, or you can employ the other methods of non-tempered martensite remains.
If the pipe is cold expanded, the amount of expansion must not exceed 1 1/2 percent of the pipe diameter.
The American steel pipe standard specifies ASTM A53 Grade B material, API 5L Gr.B material, and A53 GR.B material. ERW refers to A53 GR.B; API 5L GR.B electric resistance welded steel pipe. Welded refers to the substance API 5L GR.B Welded steel pipe.
